Some years ago El Cafè de l'Acadèmia was a meeting point for intellectuals and left wing politicians, it was one of the few places you could taste modern cuisine without needing to remortgage your home.
Today, the Cafè has become a cosmopolitan restaurant where you can encounter a lot of foreigners. They close on weekends, and in the restaurant business, not many can afford that. They have such dishes as carrot soup with prawn and parmiggiano, or escalibada with goat cheese. They serve various types of cod.
For desserts there's a variety of cakes and regarding wine, their list is varied and price-balanced.
In summer, instead of being inside, with the crowd and noise, try the terrace they have in Plaça Sant Just.
