Cacheiro is a group that runs, apart from El Gran Café, several other restaurants in Barcelona, such as Tenorio, Trobador or Tramoia, among others. El Gran Cafè has the air of the grand French Brasseries such as Gallopin or La Rotonde de Montparnasse in Paris. The cuisine here is market produce with predominance of catalan tradition, where you can equally find salads, fishes, meats and sometimes a more imaginative dish, such as a carpaccio. They offer a selection of wines that varies frequently and they have nice saloons for groups, as well as a menu at lunchtime

Hi he anat un parell de vegades al migdia. Fan un menú per 15€ aprox que està força bé, encara que no pots esperar massa varietat. L´ambient és acollidor i el servei força atent i professional. És un bon lloc de menú al centre de Barcelona.

This place has a lovely feel to it, real old-time, nice cutlery, glasses, white tableclothes, formally dressed staff and authentic interior. Tables a little close together, and they run out of space at lunchtimes for the menu del dia, so you feel a little rushed to make space for those queuing inside the door.

On our most recent visit to El Gran Cafe, a Rape dish we ordered had to be sent back to the kitchen to be warmed up as it had been served to us rather cold. It came back three minutes later, the same dish, with same piece of Rape - piping hot - how does this happen - microwave perhaps?

Only two dishes were offered for desert, a coconut icecream (which was nice), and a very sweet Crema Catalana.

We finished up with a pair of small carajelo de baileys - I know I'm spelling that wrong - which cost E3.50 each (seems a touch expensive).

A nice meal. Nice feel to the place. A little rushed. A touch expensive, but acceptable. Recommended.
